Excellent travel scale for food (our purpose). About the size of a thick smartphone, small enough to easily fit in a pocket or bag. While the lid supposedly can come off, the hinges are plastic and my experience with such hinges is that repeated removal is likely to break them sooner rather than later, so we have not been utilizing this feature. However, the TARE feature allows for the use of a small paper plate, plastic bowl, paper cup or even napkin, to keep the scale clean. Larger paper plates may make reading the display somewhat inconvenient, but the display is bright enough that it can be read even in these circumstances.

I bought this scale to measure coffee when using a pour over device. I wanted to be able to place the heavy pour over device on the scale with the filter in it and then zero out the scale (tare weight) so I could measure the coffee. The scale does have the tare feature that does this. I have been using the scale for a few weeks not and it works great, I am very happy. At first I thought it did not work, but that was because I had not removed the clear plastic cover that came on the top of the scale. I thought it was part of the scale. Once I figured out to remove it the cover, the scale worked perfectly.

AWS Blade-1kg Small compact scale perfect for my needs, weighing out precise small amounts of chemicals. For calibration this scale requires a 500 gram weight, I ordered the (American Weigh Scales 500 WGT 500 Gram Calibration Weight) along with this scale and the Blade-1kg was spot on from the factory.

The scale is constructed quite nicely, and the black casing with stainless steel weighing pad adds for a nice polished look. It comes with batteries (which I discarded because they were a nameless Chinese brand) but the thought of adding batteries free of charge is nice. In the battery compartment there is a place to store an extra set of batteries (which I do, it makes it feel weightier/higher quality). It’s very slim and is easily stored. Instructions are printed on the inside of the lid which is nice. Another reviewer said not to calibrate it, but I purchased a 500 gram calibrating weight and did it just to see if it would work okay and it did. The scale said 500.6 grams before I calibrated it, so it was fairly accurate to begin with and most likely won’t require calibration for a while. Good looks, accurate and repeatable results, excellent price, what more could you want in a 600 gram scale?
